Thymulin is a nonapeptide secreted by thymic epithelial cells, composed of a peptide component and a zinc ion essential for its biological activity. It plays a regulatory role in modulating immune-related signaling pathways and the differentiation of certain immune cell populations. Thymulin has also been observed to influence neuroendocrine interactions, particularly under conditions of stress or immune challenge.
